Table-top barrel organ from H. Hornhardt, Göttingen, Germany, around 1880
The barrel organ was manufactured by the German company Harmonika-, Blas- & Streichinstrumenten Fabrik H. Hornhardt, Johannisstraße 33, Göttingen. This particular instrument, No. 126, was probably assembled by H. Hornhardt himself, as suggested by a mark in the centre of the barrel organ. The reed barrel organ dates from the second half of the 19th century. The barrel organ’s slider mechanism plays six tunes as listed. There are two playing rollers available. This is an open-type barrel organ with 27 notes. The barrel organ is housed in a beautiful walnut cabinet. Dimensions: height 26,5 cm, width 56,5 cm and depth 26,5 cm. The width of the reel is 42 cm. The distance between the edge marks on the left and right of the playback reel is 40,6 cm. The diameter of the playing reel is 9,0 cm. Awards: General Trade Exhibition of provinz Hannover 1878 and General Trade Exhibition 1880 in Nordhausen. The trade fair in Kassel, on Karlsplatz by the fountain, and the trade fair in Braunschweig, Old Town, Stand No. 21.
